What stood out to me today is the wisdom that Solomon displayed when he judged the two women. In a day and age where the value of human life wasn’t as high as it is today, the fear that he would have killed that baby must have been palpable. These were people that were already surrounded by nations that sacrificed babies to their gods. It would also not have dawned on anyone at that time that the King (who in most cases had his word as law) would judge the matter like that. We see that different tactics were used in other cases before him. It stood out particularly because in our dispensation now, it might easily pass for common sense but the likes of Solomon crawled so that what we have now could be considered common. It’s beautiful that God blessed him like that. It’s no surprise his had the people in awe (1 Kings 3:28) widespread fame from that and other examples. Underlying that incident as well is a Jesus coded moment of what sacrificial love really looks like.
