1 Kings 12 [28-33] Deja vu anyone?? This is exactly what happened in Exodus 32:2-6 ● the golden calf(ves) ● the idolatrous proclamation ● the altar ● the self-appointed feast day Nothing had changed, echoing the words of Solomon in Ecclesiastes 1:9 What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun. [NIV]
Eccl 11:9 tells us as young people to enjoy our youth but in as much as we are enjoying, we should be reminded that freedom and responsibility go hand in hand and so while we are free to make choices, we should know our choices have consequences and one day we will give an account to God. The lesson here is while we are enjoying God’s gifts, we should not forget the one who gave us the gifts. Eccl 12:1 says we should remember our creator in the days of our youth, before the days of trouble come. We are being reminded not to leave God until later in life. The best time to know God is now not when you are older. Our relationship with God should not be our retirement plan. It is actually a blessing to already know God who will carry us through the responsibilities, disappointments and challenges the more we get older
